Optimization of the coagulation procedure for wastewater treatment
Švábová, Martina ; Mravcová, Ludmila (referee) ; Repková, Martina (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the optimization of the determination of the chemical oxygen demand in the test tubes and the optimization of the coagulation process for the external company. COD is one of the basic analysis for all types of water, although there are numerous environmentally-unfriendly agents in case of using a standard version produced. Therefore, an alternative method of using the test tubes was used, the procedure of which has been modified from ČSN ISO 15705 and is now available to the public. The aim was also to optimize the coagulation process in the treatment of wastewater from an industrial paintshop. The minimum dose of coagulating agent occurring in the instructions for usage was disproved and the pH value at which aluminium sulfate as a coagulating agent was proposed.
Operational and Technical Condition of Separation Equipment in Water Treatment Plants
Pešout, Jakub ; Roh, Robert (referee) ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor)
The goal of this thesis was to determine the operational and technical parameters of the separation objects in water treatment. The first part is a theoretical and provides basic information on this issue. The second part contains the evaluation criteria created by the obtained information for individual objects and gained in practice by personal visits of selected treatment plants of water. In the last part we can find application of these criteria in water treatment in practice. There is also included the final evaluation of the researched condition.
Chemical dosing optimalisation during by wastewater sludge dewatering
Pániková, Kristína ; Novotná, Věra (referee) ; Hrich, Karel (advisor)
Bachelor thesis deals with chemical dosing optimisation during by wastewater sludge dewatering. The thesis has two parts, practical and theoretical. Theoretical part contains basic information about thickening, destabilization and stabilization, flocculants, methods of measurement and final sludge treatment. The evaluation of laboratory measurements and presentation of the results are in the practical part.
Optimization of kaoline flocculation process
Kurťák, Marek ; Švec, Jiří (referee) ; Šoukal, František (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with flocculation of Karlove Vary area kaolin raw materials, their sedimentation rate and correlation of the flocculation, and sedimentation properties with composition of a particular material. The research was composed of sedimentation rate monitoring, execution of COD test, and subjecting the materials emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, ion chromatography and roentgen diffraction.
Optimization of the coagulation/flocculation process at the Myslivny water treatment plant
Pivokonský, Martin ; Prokopová, Michaela ; Petříček, Radim ; Čermáková, Lenka
This report describes the raw water quality focusing on the content of natural organic substances, as well as laboratory optimization of coagulation operating parameters - especially the type and dose of coagulating agent and the value of reaction pH and proposing measures necessary to improve the current situation.
Oxidation of compounds produced by cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa and its impact on water treatment by coagulation
Štědrá, Karolína ; Načeradská, Jana (advisor) ; Kopecká, Ivana (referee)
Due to eutrophication of aquatic environment, massive growth of algae and cyanobacteria occurs and the seasonal algal bloom is formed. Drinking water treatment plants have to deal with the increased amount of cells as well as organic compounds produced by algae and cyanobacteria (so-called AOM). Moreover, the presence of AOM causes a reduction in the efficiency of coagulation, which is an essential process in drinking water treatment. To increase coagulation efficiency, supportive methods, such as ozone oxidation, are added usually prior to coagulation. While many studies focused on the ozonation of algal and cyanobacterial cells, little is known about the effect of ozonation on AOM. This diploma thesis focused on the evaluation of the effect of ozonation in combination with coagulation on the removal of cellular organic compounds (COM) produced by cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa. The effect of ozonation before or after coagulation on COM removal was investigated. The degradation of microcystins, which are naturally contained in the COM sample, was also monitored. Various ozone doses (1 - 10 mg/L) were tested at three pH values - 5, 7 and 9. Two coagulants were utilized - aluminium sulphate and ferric sulphate. Ozonation removed COM negligibly. However, eliminated microcystins, the degradation...
Optimization of coagulation/flocculation process and design of mixing technology - Water treatment plant Milence
Pivokonský, Martin ; Čermáková, Lenka ; Novotná, Kateřina ; Pivokonská, Lenka
The presented report deals with the description of raw water quality focusing mainly on the nature of organic matter, then comprehensive evaluation of operational efficiency of existing aggregation, laboratory optimization of coagulation operating parameters - especially type and dose of coagulant and reaction pH, laboratory optimization of flocculation operating parameters) - mixing time and intensity. The final chapter is devoted to the design of a technical solution for aggregation (mixing and slurry formation) directly in the operation of ÚV Milence.
Optimization of the coagulation process at the Březová water treatment plant
Pivokonský, Martin ; Čermáková, Lenka ; Prokopová, Michaela ; Pivokonská, Lenka
The presented report deals with the description of raw water quality focusing mainly on the nature of the contained organic substances, then a comprehensive evaluation of the operational efficiency of existing aggregation and laboratory optimization of coagulation operating parameters - especially the dose of coagulant and reaction pH. Coagulation in combination with sedimentation and sand filtration must be understood not only as the first stage of water treatment before ultrafiltration, but also as protection of the membranes themselves from their clogging, especially by macromolecular organic substances. From this point of view, it is necessary to operate coagulation with subsequent separation of aggregates with the maximum possible efficiency.

The influence of flocculation conditions (global shear rate and time) on the shape and structure of formed aggregates and the efficiency of their separation by sedimentation and filtration
Pivokonský, Martin ; Vašatová, Petra ; Pivokonská, Lenka ; Petříček, Radim ; Filipenská, Monika
A summary research report on the influence of hydrodynamic conditions of flocculation (the intensity of mixing, residence time, etc.) on the property of the aggregates (size, shape, structure, etc.), that have a major impact on the separation steps (sedimentation, filtration) during water treatment. The report will be used by the water treatment plants with the technology of high intensity flocculation.
